Scout's Pinewood Derby car tops' more than 200 MPH!

pinewood derby web

Block of wood, check. Wheels, check. Sand paper and drill from Dad, check. Car racing past 200 mph on race day, check!

That was the speed of many of the cars at the Cub Scout Pack 372 Annual Pinewood Derby race, but it was Cub Scout Jonathan Slack who brought home the gold! With an all around average speed of 199.7 mph, his car's slick aerodynamics and paint job which proudly displayed an American Flag theme could not be beat! It was an exciting race for all who attended this year.

Cub Scout Pack 372 from Orland Park, unveiled its brand new Pinewood Derby track. A massive display was projected on the wall so every racer could see their name with up to the minute information about their car's racing speeds and placement in the heat. For those whose cars may have not had the fastest speeds, there is usually a reason. The reason being, they are simply a work of art. From Lego masterpieces to an Ice Cream sandwich racing down the track the day is truly one of amazement.
