Cub Scout Pack 372
WaterFall Glen Hike Darien, IL
Sunday August 1st, 2010 Time: 9:30 am
Anticipate doing around 3 to 4 miles, reviewing the Leave No Trace principles and doing some nature observations. So any boys looking to complete some requirements, check your respective books.
This hike will be credited as July's hike, due to the re-sceduling, for those using this to complete the summertime award.
DIRECTIONS
Take 159th. to Bell Rd. Turn right and go all the way to Archer Ave. (Rt.171) turn right and it will lead you right into Route 83.
Continue North on 83 until you come to Bluff Rd. (Clark gas station on left). Turn left onto Bluff Rd. and continue about 1 mile or so until you see the Education Center sign and Ranger residence on the left. Try to park in the parking lot back there (bad news......only 12 parking spots).
If there is no parking there, pull out and go left to the sharp curve and park on the stone area by the fence gate (that area holds about 25 cars). I will be standing out there to inform you of the parking inside. We have an alternate if we need to move. Most of the trail is crushed packed limestone, so that is stroller friendly.
WHAT TO BRING
Make sure the boys and parents have comfortable walking shoes (hiking boots), rain gear, water, backpack with snacks, hiking staves (if you like), bug spray, and maybe sunscreen (but most of the trail is covered by trees.......best to be prepared). If you have binoculars, bring them.......saw some really cool things out there today!!!! Ranger gave me some alternate routes just in case of bad weather.
This should be a great hike, so I look forward to seeing everyone there!!!
Yours in Scouting,
Frank Perino, Cubmaster
